You’ll find that a large portion of the auctions found below are related to action figures. I’ve always appreciated the world of collectible figures and the most valuable finds in that corner of collecting are almost always prototypes. We’ve got a few of those listed as well as some other figures of value. Most of what is listed here is quite expensive, but it’s worth the money if you simply must have it. Also, I’ve added some more affordable auctions which are pretty cool buys.

Halo 3 The Rookie Sculpt Prototype - A very rough sculpt from early development. Possibly only three is the world.

Halo 2 White Spartan Green Stripes Prototype - An unreleased version of the White Spartan Halo 2 figure.

Halo 1 Gold Elite Prototype - The seller seems to confirm that there were only three of these made.

Halo 2 Mini White Grunt Prototype - This prototype is more affordable because more were made than the above figures. They were never officially released, but the seller has three of them.

Gears of War Marcus Fenix Figure Gold Lancer Vaniant - Many collectors want to get their hands on this figure and this may be your moment to buy. The reason being that %25 of buy will go to American Red Cross.

Gears of War 3 Trashball Cole Statue - Only 100 of these out there people. This auction has been around for some time and we have actually featured it before… maybe the seller should take a hint and go down to maybe $250.

M. Bison and Dimitri Figures - Not terribly valuable, but they are up for a very nice price. Good buy for fans.

Zelda Twilight Princess Link & Epona Club Nintendo Gold Statue - This statue has sold for several times more than the current bid in the past. Keep your eye on this one guys…

Blizzard 5 Years of Service Sword - Blizzard is known for giving employees gifts for the number of years of service. This sword was given for 5 years of work.

There are a few sellers in today’s listing who have a shrinking stock of the item up for auction. This happens when someone buys up a collectible with the intent of reselling for a profit, or when old stock for a store is found. Both examples can be found below. The first item up is going fast…

The Legend of Zelda Hyrule Historia - Another release connected to the 25th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda, this book is full of great information from the Zelda series. The book is Japanese, but the seller is shipping from the U.S. This is their second batch of books and all but 4 have been sold.

Neo Geo Pocket Color - This auction is closing today (or has already closed, depending on when you’re reading this. lol) and the current bid is quite low.

Doom SNES Sealed - Something funny about this auction… The sealed copy of Doom is actually selling for the exact same price that I paid when it was new! Game prices back then were very unpredictable. The seller started with a full box of sealed copies of Doom, but half have already sold.

Doom 3 Gamestop Jacket - The seller explains that these jackets were given to Gamestop stores that sold the most copies of Doom 3. Each store that won got 5 jackets but how many stores qualified is unknown.

Skyrim Flag - It’s tough to get an idea of the size of this by the picture, but it’s actually 60″ long! That’s pretty huge. Bids are adding up and the auction closes today.

Sharp Famicom Station - Here is a serious buy for a serious collector. It’s in great shape and intact. The seller doesn’t have the key to open the front however.

Batman Arkham City Statue - Another awesome release from Kotobukiya! I love the gray look and how they used the edge of the base as part of the sculpture itself. The seller started with 4, but there’s only 1 left.

Batman DC Universe Online Statue - This Batman statue doesn’t match the quality found in the one above, but it still looks great. It has an above average paint job that catches the eye. 

Donkey Kong Coloring & Activity Book - You can’t go wrong for $2. There is one page with a connect the dots picture partly done, but it’s otherwise left untouched. This auction closes today.

We’ve got a few auctions to list today but I’m going to have to make it quick because today is a busy day for everyone I’m sure. Still, there are a couple items here that shouldn’t be missed.

Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Anniversary Limited Statue - This cool statue was a limited run of 900. This auction is for #161.

Steve Weibe Signed A&G Card - Signed by Steve Weibe, who got a lot of attention from the gaming world after the movie King of Kong, this card is a great collectible for fans of the movie and for video game history in general. There was also a card signed by Billy Mitchell up, but it was sold before I got a chance to put it up.

Big Box Gyromite - The big box version of Gyromite is quite rare and even harder to find in good condition. The condition of this box is better than many I have seen, but still quite a bit of wear on the edges.

Nintendo Computer Mah-Jong Yakuman - The seller listed this as “one of Nintendo’s first handhelds” but that isn’t really true. This was actually released a few years after the Game & Watch series was already popular. It was never released in North America and there aren’t that many out there. Something interesting about this game is that it actually supported the very first link cable made by Nintendo (the next link cable from Nintendo would be for the Gameboy). Good luck finding two of these AND the link cable though. The cable is very rare.

Chiller CIB - Even though the game is complete, the styrofoam insert has unfortunately been marked “Happy Dads diecast + games”. It can be easily replaced of course.

Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass Keychain - I love this keychain. The Zelda title plate is a little big, but still very cool.

The 17″ Kratos statue that was available on SideShowToy.com for some time is now sold out and some of them are showing up on eBay of course. There was a Side Show exclusive version that was limited to 550 which included alternate hands for Kratos to be holding the Claws of Hades rather than the Blades of Athena. The standard statue was limited to 1,500. Something very interesting has popped up on eBay though… a 3rd version custom made by Dream 2 Reality Cosplay Fabrication. I’m not sure how legal this is because it’s a %100 copy of the original mold. But, I think I like their chrome version more than the original…

The colorless chrome painted version looks much better in a statue-like way. That’s not to say the original has a bad paint job because it really doesn’t. I guess it comes down to what you prefer to display in your collection. The original limited one carries more value of course.

God of War Kratos Statue (limited 1,500) - This auction ends today and the bids have currently gone just a few dollars over the original price from Side Show.

God of War Kratos Statue (chrome copy) - The copy is selling for the same amount as the original sold from Side Show. It’s not worth much as an investment but if you think it looks as cool I do, you may want one for yourself.

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Standee - A store display for the most recent Zelda game. I’m sure someone is looking to add this to their collection.

Pac-Man Scrap Book - It’s in great shape and a good addition to any Pac-Man collection.

Limited Clear Black N64 Controller (64DD Japanese release) - There are a few limited N64 controllers out there but this one really caught my eye.

Nintendo 1993 Press Kit - A complete binder of promotional info. It would be a great look into where Nintendo was back in 93′.

World of Nintendo Light Sign - There are a couple of these on eBay but they are often (when found) in need of repair or are missing parts. The seller is taking offers on this sign which is in top shape.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D Pre-order Set - These items are normally sold on their own but here’s an auction for the full set (game not included). The price is too high and the seller knows it so they are taking offers.

The first auction we are showing today is about as interesting as it gets. Mega Man fans can look over this for hours thinking of the many steps and departments involved before a game is released. This is actually a fax (not the original sketch) for the working cover art for the North American release of Mega Man 5. The value comes down because it’s not the original sketch, but you get to see something here that you wouldn’t see on the original. There are notes for changes needed on the design…

Nearly all of the notes were followed for the final cover art for the game. The image of Rush would be replaced with the new character Tango the cat but the suggestion of where to put Rush is different on the final look. The biggest changes from these notes are the changing of Mega Man’s arm from the buster to the launching fist and the reversing of the moon and the earth to put Mega Man in space rather than simply looking up at it (you can see craters in the moon above on the working sketch).

Mega Man 5 (GB) Working Cover Art Notes - This is, without question, a great piece of Mega Man history. The full page is of course larger than the image above. There is a blank side to the paper with four pieces of tape suggesting something else (likely typed notes) was attached. It’s also cool to note the date of the fax. On the top edge, you can see it was faxed May 31st 1994. This places the fax roughly 3 months before the North American release of the game. I suggest making the seller an offer of maybe $185… I have a feeling that would do it and give you a nice price reduction. Congrats to the future buyer!

Ultima II (Sealed Long Box) Apple II - Fans of the Ultima series often look for rare copies of the games. This is exactly that… and, to top it off,  it’s still factory sealed.

The Official Nintendo Sticker Album - Some readers may recognize this right away. Anyone else have one of these? Included in this auction is a 5-pack of untouched stickers.

Nintendo Mario Bros / Zelda Wood Chest - VGA has actually listed this a couple times in the past. The auction has a bit more than a day left and the current bid is reasonable.

Pac-Man Maniac Pin - Here’s a very angry looking Pac-Man with legs lol. A random item for pin collectors.

Pac-Man Necklace - The only reason I included this was for the chance that one of our readers will recognize this as something they had once and would like to have once again.

Docs Gametimer (Game Boy Storage Case) - When the Gameboy was released, many carrying cases were released to cover the gamers’ need to keep their Gameboy in top shape while they take it place to place. I had a hard plastic clip-close case that did the job well. This case however is far better and the original box is included.

NES Collection Starter - This auction is very strange. It’s being listed for one day only… You get the console, 2 controllers, zapper, and 13 games. Most of the games come with the manual, sleeve, and box but… they are in pretty rough shape. The starting bid is only $1 but the reserve is higher. I’m not sure how this one will work out…

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Wolf Link Midna Statue Ltd 750 - Another impressive statue from First 4 Figures. This was a limited production of 750.

Kirby Fire/Sword Figure - It’s cool to note the Sword Kirby wears what looks like Link’s cap. But, if you look closer, you will notice it has a ball at the end like a sleeping cap. It is dream land after all… lol

Racing Dreams Zelda Car - Ok, here’s a weird item. It’s a “one-time production run” for the Johnny Lightning Racing Dreams cars. Hmm… a Zelda racing car… strange.

There are many great Final Fantasy collectibles out there and the Cold Cast series of statues really draw in high prices. Though the Cloud vs Sephiroth statue (ltd 1,000) gets the most attention, it isn’t the rarest. The popularity (and importance to the FFVII story) tends to make it reach the highest prices and I feel these are justified reasons. The rarest statue however is the 1st edition Highwind statue.

Final Fantasy VII Highwind 1st Ed Cold Cast Statue - The original 1997 release of this statue was limited to 500 worldwide. The Highwind statue was later re-released with a lesser quality paint job and cheaper box for mass production. This makes the original 500 very hard to spot. Once you do find it however, it’s clear as day just by looking at the box. #116 of 500 is available on eBay and has actually been re-listed a few times already. The seller is taking offers, but they are clearly patient. If you are a dedicated Final Fantasy VII collector, you… want… this… lol.

1st Edition Pokemon Card Box Sealed - Pokemon cards can go for a lot and, of course, 1st edition cards often cost the most. This sealed box may contain value beyond the selling price by a lot, but having a sealed box is a prize all it’s own.

Super Mario Platinum Anniversary Bundle - This auction holds a collection of random Mario items such as the Club Nintendo Platinum Super Mario Bros statue, the Mario Galaxy pre-order coin, and more. %15 goes to Child’s Play Charity too.

Sega Dreamcast Developer Kit - I can’t believe the current price on this dev kit. It’s still kinda early, but it’s still interesting.

Pokemon Celebi Distribution Only cart - Another DS cart never available to the public. Anyone with a collection missing this one?

Sonic Blast (SMS) - Sonic games on the Sega Master System tend to be quite valuable and Sonic Blast is up on eBay right now.

Atari Donkey Kong Game Kit - The condition of the box to this set is in fantastic condition. I hope the buyer can keep in this shape.

Clank Promo Figure - Maybe not the tops in term of value, but still a cool item for the fans.

We’ve got rare, cool, and unusual items listed today. They all look great and there’s a good enough variety to get everyone’s attention. When looking through these auctions, the prices really on a couple really stumped me. The value of collectibles goes up with rarity of course… But there’s also age, demand, and popularity. When buying to invest your money in something very important to you with hopes of maybe selling for a lot more down the road, be careful about items related to recent releases. You’ll see what I mean…

Mass Effect 2 The Citadel Lithograph - There are a series of Mass Effect 2 limited lithographs out there, but some are harder to find than others. The reason being that some, which look better than others, are being kept by collectors rather than being put up for sale, flooding the market, making it more common, and less valuable. Credit for finding this one goes to ‘MortalMonday’. The price put up by the seller isn’t entirely off, but consider that this is a collectible for Mass Effect 2 which is a recent trilogy of games. Time hasn’t spoken to the staying popularity of the series and that makes this buy for major fans only. Buying this for re-sale could result in a staggering loss. A word to the wise and cheers for the fans.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Letter Opener - This item is dramatically different than the litho above market-wise. The letter opener was never available for sale and is very rare. The Legend of Zelda series is time-tested and so rooted in the classics of video games that “Zelda items” has become it’s own world of collecting. Top Zelda collectors look for this daily I’m sure. The seller’s price isn’t bad, but they are taking offers (and rejecting more than a few lol).

Halo 2 Life Size Statue (Euro) - Everyone may know of the Halo statue of Master Chief stepping up onto a rock, but this version is very different. The sculpt quality is far better and it’s also much more rare. The paint job is also a step up and this is likely what you would notice first if you saw them side by side. If shipping costs are on your mind, note that it does disassemble into 8 parts and is very light weight.

Super Mario Bros Ceiling Fan - Riku had this listed a couple months ago and the seller hasn’t given up. Maybe a few messages could bring them down to reality in terms of price. Still, it’s not something you see every day.

Tyrael’s Hilt Loot Card - This is another World of Warcraft loot card for a pet. This has got to be one of the coolest pets I’ve seen in the game. Tyrael is an angel from the Diablo series and reallllly catches your eye when you see him floating around in World of Warcraft. It’s been a while since I’ve seen one in-game. The current price is beyond high, but the seller knows they have something people want.

Pac-Man Lighted Sign - Not a Namco item, but the simple Pac-Man design makes the sign a great addition to any classic game room. It’s not a neon sign though; it has 96 small bulbs in it.

Arcade Machine Alarm Clock - I don’t expect anyone to go crazy for this item, but I thought it was cool and I might pick one up. Being a gamer, I can think of no better way to wake up than to hear classic arcade style sound effects lol.

The only down-side to spending time combing through the thousands of interesting auctions on eBay to list the highlights here on VGA is the constant temptation to grab up all of the collectibles for yourself and spend the rest of your life paying for them lol! This happens all the time but, for me, statues bring on this temptation even more…

Halo 3 Kotobukiya Statue (Ltd 1,000) - This Steel Spartan 12″ statue was a limited release by Kotobukiya. Once again, the quality upholds their reputation. There are only 1,000 of these but the auction information doesn’t show the number being sold.

Hellgate London Templar Statue - This game had a lot of hype going for it before it’s release, but it’s release passed quietly. Visually, the game is quite impressive and this statue really speaks to that side of the game.

Ninja Gaiden Kotobukiya Ryu Statue - Ryu has become a classic video game character mainly due to the NES series and there are many fans out there. If you’re one of them, this statue is worth buying.

Legend of Zelda Darunia Goron Statue - Wow, look at the sculpt job on this one! It looks like it was pulled right out of the game.

Custom Jay and Silent Bob Xbox 360 Controller Signed - This controller has ink drawings of Jay and Silent Bob as they looked on the Clerks cartoon and it has been signed by Jason Mewes (the actor who plays Jay). To avoid smearing with use of the control, the autograph and drawings have been sealed under an automotive clear coat.

Resistance: Fall of Man Leather Jacket - The seller explains that they won this jacket of incredible quality at a tournament. I’ve seen a lot of game related jackets, but this one is one of the most impressive. The design on the back is very cool.

World of Warcraft 2010 Blizzcon Murloc Stein - WoW fans will all know why this stein is popular. Mulocs in the game are famous for that gurgling noise they make when go after you. The stein looks awesome for something that is meant as a half-joke.

Fallout 3 Vault Boy Watch - This watch is a great little item for fans of the game. The leather strap is the same tone of blue as Vault Boy’s jump suit which is a nice touch. It’s not an official item however. It’s a custom job, but it’s very well done.

Playstation 2 Neon Sign - This would have once been used in the window of a rental store or hung over the PS2 section. These signs are a popular buy for collectors or gamers with huge game collections. Very cool.
