Atari Consoles Everything 2

Atari Video Music C240

Although Riku posted this a while back, I thought I’d post this Atari Video Music again and describe it more in detail.

Before the release of the Atari 2600 in 1977, there was the Atari Video Music C240. I’m betting many people reading this right now have never heard of this machine before! If you are well aware of the Video Music C240, my hat’s off to you. The first images of the C240 that I ever saw were found about five years ago when I was looking through various sites trying to find old “top of the line” audio video gear lol. This isn’t a game machine however; it displays patterns on a TV screen using sound coming from a connected¬†audio device. The switches and knobs on the front allow you to change and modify the images on the screen.

It’s a very interesting bit of Atari history. Imagine people who picked up one of these in 1976 and listened to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody on the biggest TV they could buy! lol, it must have blown their minds. You can get one of these for your own right now if you have the cash. The Video Music C240 was not produced in a high quantity at all and is quite rare. The rarity, age, and later success of Atari makes this quite valuable. The C240 on eBay right now comes with the original box and manual…

I know, it looks so futuristic in comparison to its time! I mean, really this is from the 1970’s?!?! It was way ahead of it’s time!
