We all thought at one point it would be amazing to get paid to play video games. However is it all that it is made out to be? There is a history of getting paid to play video games, but I wont be touching on the history aspect, I’m just going to give me thoughts on whether it’s worth it or not.
Now when we think of playing games and getting paid we’re thinking the casual game play or playing with friends but really when it comes down to it it’s not all fun and games. If you’re a beta tester your testing for glitches, any errors, game play malfunctions and so on. Sure it’s fun to test out a new game but at what cost? Some sites suggest you can get paid up to $165/hr which with further investigation is false. Beta testing initially came as a “prize” meaning you submitted your name to the game company and if you were one of the lucky ones selected to test the game you got yourself a free copy. Nowadays it seems people are paying for beta testers(not to say they aren’t still given out as prizes). If you’re interested you can check out reputable sites like Betawatcher or Gamestester for more information.
If you’re more of a tournament guy then Gamer Saloon is the place for you. Play tournaments on any console and for most multiplayer games. Create teams and enter tournaments to win big cash prizes. Everyone’s heard of MLG(Major League Gaming) which you create a clan and enter to win a spot at an MLG event where you face tops teams in that game to win money. There’s the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, and then there’s MLG. Play games like Halo Reach and the new Black ops.
Which one should you be? If you’re a more laid back gamer but with decent skills then go for beta testing. If you like the high adrenaline competition from head to head action then go for tournaments. This is big for games like Modern Warefare, Halo, Gears of war and so on. Which one would I be? I’d most definately go for tournaments and a chance to win big bucks. Hope you liked the brief explanation. Post your thoughts.
