Pikachu Illustrator – The Rarest Pokémon Card in the World

Back in 1997, a contest was held in Japan for kids to design their own Pokémon. This contest was held three times that year. These few events released the rarest Pokémon card to the world. There were a few select winners who got one of these cards and there are only six in the world. In the past 13 years since these cards were given out, only a couple have appeared for sale. They value in the tens of thousands of dollars…

About 5 months ago, one of these six appeared on eBay. The card was put up for $32,500 and it was not sold (34 offers were declined). Even though this auction has since expired, the seller placed a note on all of their items that says the seller will be away until Sept 15, 2010 and that items can still be bought. This note is meant to explain shipping delays, but the card didn’t sell… this means the card will be appearing on eBay once again in the near future. Also note that this is a well known and respected Pokémon card seller and they have been around for many years. The link to the original auction is shown below:

Of course not everyone in the world can spend $32,500 on a card but, don’t worry; there are quite a few other crazy rare Pokémon cards out there. Here is a list of some available on eBay right now:

Charizard 1st Edition Base Set – This set contains a 1st Edition Charizard from 6 different countries! Charizard from the base 1st Edition is one of the rarest cards in the world.

16 Base Set Holos 1st Edition (PSA 10) – This set of 16 base set holo cards are all PSA rated 10 and sealed. This set includes Charizard.

Charizard 1st Edition x3 (PSA 7, 8, and 9) – Three PSA rated 1st Edition Charizards! Each has a different rating.

Pokemon Fan Club Get Prize Card Eevee – This is a rare card from the Pokémon fan club reward system. 500 points (2nd highest point value) earned you this card. Very few can be found.

2007 Battle Road Trophy Mew Victory Orb – This card was awarded to 3rd place Master League winner in Osaka Japan in the Battle Road Summer Tournament of 2007. Very rare…

Good’ol Japan… nice find… I love these kinds of collectibles where it’s given out as a prize.

It’s auctions like this that disappoint me. I don’t even collect a lot of Pokemon merchandise but would love to have this Illustrator card. But for $32,000? The seller needs to step back and look at his auction. It didn’t sell the first time so he should really consider adjusting the price :/
But I just love the Pokemon Fan Club, look how happy Eevee looks 🙂
