Super Nintendo (SNES) 3

Secret of Mana 2 – English Reproduction

I have to admit, I was a little dumbfounded when it came to Secret of Mana. In Japan, it’s called Seiken Densetsu 2, which means there is a Seiken Densetsu 1. But it’s not what you think, Seiken Densetsu 1 is really Final Fantasy Adventure in North America, and then there is a Seiken Densetsu 3, which would technically be Secret of Mana 2 over here, but was never released in N.A. Did I lose you yet?

Since Seiken Densetsu 3 was never released over here, fans of the series would join together to create an unofficial N.American game that was translated all in English. Right now on Game Gavel seller coinheaven has a copy of Secret of Mana 2 which includes the nice Super Nintendo Box created to look exactly like an original SNES box. You can find the auction here.

Sure you can play this game through a modded Xbox/Xbox 360 by downloading the game or by simply installing a chip that unlocks the game, but it feels much better to be playing the game off your SNES console, which is ideal.

Why didn’t this game get a release in N.America? Well, a great article about this is found at theSeikens. It really comes down to politics, but rumor is that Square USA choose to release a game that young gamers in N.America can relate too more such as Secret of Evermore. Instead of playing characters that look like they are from ancient history, you play a more modern character in SofE, “The Boy”. Yeah I tried remembering if the protagonist had a name but he’s only referred too as “The Boy”. There’s other rumors such as Squares utilizing their economies of scale for the production of Super Mario RPG with Nintendo, but I won’t get into that.

The price is a little high, but it comes with a box while similar auctions that include the box sell for minimum $175.

Seiken Densetsu 1 was called FF Adventure, but was then remade on the GBA and called Sword of Mana. Great game. I recommend a playthrough.

I was thinking of buying the above auction but a little too expensive for my taste. Yeah I can download it but it’s just not the same, plus the seller put the work into giving it SNES appeal…

There are some game sites that offer a brand new copy of the English version of ‘Secret of Mana 2’ complete with box and manual for about $70. Don’t waste your money on auctions for this! Instead, do the research first and pick one up cheap.
